BUILDING GREEN 2009 Federal Tax Credits and Incentives The federal and state governments both offer incentives to encourage you to make your house more energy efficient. This legislation extends homeowner tax credits that were first enacted in 2005 which expired 12/31/07. Taxpayers who didn’t use the full $500 credit in tax years 2006 or 2007 can use the remaining portion for 2009. These tax credits are for items installed prior to 12/31/09 except as noted below, however, Congress may extend these past 2009. See www.energytaxincentives.org The Federal tax credit covers 10 percent of the installed cost up to a maximum $500 limit (unless noted otherwise) for:
Look for the Energy Star or National Fenestration Rating Council labels when buying windows, skylights, storm windows, exterior doors, storm doors, metal roofing, insulation, water heaters, appliances, light fixtures, ventilation fans, and office equipment.
